The Thika Primary School for the Visually Impaired was the venue for the Central Region Get Into Rugby (G.I.R) Coaches Training Course which took place on 22 November 2017 following a request from Thika RFC.
A total of 23 participants drawn from Thika RFC, Machakos RFC, Mount Kenya University, Matuu, Meru and Kiambu RFC took part in the course that was facilitated by Rugby Africa Regional Development Officer Johnbosco Muamba.
“The objective was to equip the region in general and Thika RFC in particular with coaches who will initiate Get into Rugby and age-grade activities in order to grow number of players. This idea was driven by the desire to establish a firm foundation, built on local and available talent, to ensure consistence performance by clubs within the region,” said Muamba.
“The course focused on Long Term Player Development (LTPD), Coaching styles, Coaching children and the Game-based approach. The coaches will receive Get Into Rugby Coaching certificates and will be expected to work with children within their environment by coaching the TRY phase of the Get Into Rugby program,” he added.
