Dubai Sevens Draw: Simiyu’s Sentiments

Innocent Simiyu

Shujaa Head Coach Innocent Simiyu (pictured) has shared his sentiments on the draw for the opening round of the 2017/18 HSBC Sevens World Series, the Dubai Sevens, taking place on 1st and 2nd  December at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, UAE.

He said, ” We have a exiting pool with two local derbies to sort out bragging rights. We will  have our mini ‘King of Africa 7s’ competiton in the pool. I know we have enough firepower to top the pool.

Uganda are the recently crowned African 7s champions and some of their key players are currently playing in our local sevens circuit. South Africa are the reigning World Sevens Series champions and we have come close to beating them last year on numerous occasions, losing by a conversion or a late try. Canada had a good season last year and play a well structured game. We have beat them a few times last year and we cant leave anything to chance.”

Commenting on the side’s preparations, Simiyu said,”Our preparations are going on well and the boys are also playing in the local circuit, where we will be selecting the team for the year 2017-18. We are planning to use Ausopul 7s in South Africa and Safland 7s in Namibia as build ups to Dubai.”

Shujaa are in Pool A for the Dubai Sevens with South Africa, Canada and Uganda.
