KCB Head Coach Curtis Olago and his Lionesses counterpart Kevin Wambua are among the nominees in the Coach of the Year category for the annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA).

Olago, a former Kenyan international who played for Kisumu, Impala, Nondescripts and KCB during a stellar career, led KCB to the 2016/17  Kenya Cup league and Enterprise Cup double for the second time in his stint in charge of KCB, having previous achieved the feat during the 2014/15 season.

Wambua was in charge of the Lionesses side that ran South Africa close in the Women’s Africa Cup Sevens, going down 17-12 in the cup final in Tunisia on Sunday 17 September 2017, missing out on Africa’s sole berth to the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco but still qualifying for the 2018  Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The duo are up against cricket’s Jimmy Kamande who secured Kenya’s qualification to the International Cricket Council’s U19 World Cup after a 16 year hiatus, hockey’s Jos Openda who led 19 time Kenyan champions Telkom to a 9th African Club Championship and soccer’s Edward Manaoh who steered Vihiga United to the National Soccer League title, securing promotion to the top flight Kenyan Premier League for the 2018 season.
