Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC won the first leg of the KRU Women’s 10- a- side festival at USIU on Sunday 4 February after beating Mwamba RFC 19-17 in a thrilling encounter.
Mwamba took the lead when Janet Okello landed a try with Doreen Remour converting for a 7-0 score.
Homeboyz responded with quick tries from Cynthia Camilla and Rachael Mbogo while Janet Owino added a conversion to take a 12-7 lead at the breather.
Janet Okello landed her brace after the restart to put Kulabu level as the game remained finely poised.
Hoemboyz then went ahead through Shariffa Chiringa’s try, Owino sure with the conversion but Mwamba fought to the end, Celestine Masinde landing Mwamba’s third try but the ensuing conversion was short, Homeboyz taking the win.
Stanchart Impala ladies edged out Top Fry Nakuru RFC 7-5 to finish third.
Defending champions Northern Suburbs did not have a very fruitful outing, finishing with a 32-0 win over Comras in the ranking final.
The festival’s second round takes place at the KCB Sports Club Ruaraka on Sunday 18 February.
