Kakamega, a county that has long been considered a conveyor belt of rugby talent comes alive with a series of rugby related activities this week.

The highlight of these activities is the final of the Kenya Cup league, Kenya’s premier club competition pitting hosts Kabras Sugar against defending champions KCB in what has been described by many as the perfect way to close the 2018/19 league season.

This match on Saturday 18 May 2019 kicks off at 3.45pm and will be preceded by the second division KRU Championship final at 1.30pm between Kakamega based Western Bulls and Kisumu RFC who are just 49 kilometers away in what should be an excited regional derby.

It is important to note that the two sides will play in next season’s Kenya Cup after winning their semifinal fixtures to secure promotion to the country’s top tier last weekend. Both matches will be beamed live on Bamba Sports.

The Kenya Rugby Union will also conduct training and education activities which kicked off on 15 May with its second annual Super Week running until 17 May. The activities are ongoing at the Western Bulls clubhouse in Kakamega and cover Level 1 Coaching 7s, Level 1 Introduction to Coaching Children, Level 1 First Aid In Rugby and Level 1 Strength and Conditioning.

The inaugural Western Region Prescott Cup tournament spices up the retinue of rugby related activity in Kakamega. A total of eight teams will be in action on Saturday 18th: Kakamega High School, Chavakali High School, Vihiga High School and Maseno High School make up Pool A as Kibabii high School, Friends School Kamusinga High School, Koyonzo High School and Bungoma High School are in Pool B.

The Bull Ring will host the Pool A matches with Kakamega High School facing Chavakali at 10:00am followed by the Maseno High School vs Vihiga High School encounter at 11:00am. Kakamega will then take on Vihiga an hour later before the Maseno and Chavakali fixture wraps up the day one action.

Kibabii High School will host the Pool B matches with Bungoma taking on FS Kamusinga High School at 10:00am, Kibabii facing Koyonzo High School at 11:00am. After a short break, Koyonzo will get back into pitch action against Bungoma High School and finally the hosts Kibabii versus FS Kamusinga bringing the action to an end.
