SportPesa Quins launched their sevens campaign by unveiling their (2017-18) home and away kit at the Kenya Harlequin Clubhouse on Thursday 31st August. The exciting kit sees Quins return to their quintessential home quarters borrowed from our affiliates London Harlequins. Both Harlequins’ home and away replicas are now on sale at the Quins online and offline stores.
Quins have had quite an active pre-season with a series of training games against Homeboyz, Mwamba, Nondies, Daystar Falcons and even the Kenya Lionesses. Preparations have gone well for both S&C and technically and we are looking forward to the beginning of the 2017 National Sevens Circuit.
“I have lots of expectations to this team this season and one of them is to become champion of the National Sevens Series after coming in second last year” Quins Team Manager Jimmy Mnene told Quins Media. “The teams at the highest level win the most. Skill equals success. No day is or game is ever the same, the team that adapts first wins and those are some of the aspects that both 7s head coach Joash Odhalo and coach Joseph Kangethe are working on. Merit, fitness and skills level have been the only factors used in narrowing down the team, added the TM.
As the 7s season kicks off with Driftwoods, Quins, captained by Eric Shikuku and assisted by Kenya Internationals Tony Mutai and Eden Agero, focus is firing our cylinders from the first tournament by being efficient and executing what we have worked on. We are in an explosive Pool (B) with Mwamba, Oilers and Kisii rugby teams.
“For Driftwoods Quins is in one of the tougher pools and we are very aware of the 7s rivalry between us and Mwamba especially with both teams having celebrated Kenya 7s players. Oilers have also come off an impressive 15s season and could be the bogey team in our pool. Kisii may look like the underdogs in this pool but always surprise us and they have individuals who can change games. We are out to top the pool and are not taking any game lightly as we are out to defend the trophy” reiterated 7s coach Joash Odhalo.
