Kenyan schools dominated the sevens and fifteens competitions at the East Africa School Games held in Gulu, Uganda between 19th and 26th August 2017.

Muhuru Muchiri won the sevens rugby competition with a 14-7 win over Uganda’s  Jinja S.S while Kenyan schools sevens champions Menengai claimed third place overall. Muhuru Muchiri’s Kevin Obwango, speaking to the Nation’s Brian Yonga, said, ““I am so happy. No one gave us a chance but we have won. I cant believe it,”. Euphoric could not describe his feeling.

Laiser Hill lead a Kenyan clean sweep of the fifteens rugby competition, finishing first overall at the close of the event which was played on a round robin basis with other Kenyan sides Kakamega and Upper Hill rounding off the top three.

Laiser Hill captain Christopher Asira was elated after the success attributing the win to hardwork and strong conditioning.

“This is not just a win for us, but gold for Kenya and we are glad we have achieved it. Our success is due to good preparations and the brilliance of our coach,” Asira told the Standard’s Elizabeth Mburugu in Gulu over the weekend.
