The Kenya Rugby Union held a Level 1 officiating course on the sidelines of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association National Schools Fifteens Championships at the Kangaru High School in Embu between 7th and 8th April 2018.
A total of 20 participants, 18 men and 2 women attended the course.
KRU Training and Education Co-ordinator, George “Malik” Ndemi said, ” This course was geared towards the integration of coaching and officiating considering the fact that the participants were teachers who double up as coaches in their schools and as referees in school games.”
“Pauline Ndwiga and Ann Rita Ndwiga, the only women who attended the course have picked up girls rugby owing to the growth of GIR in schools and the performance of the Kenya Lionesses. There is a notable number of girls playing rugby in Embu. The two female teachers prefer coaching than officiating. They both requested to be nurtured in coaching,” he added.
