The County Government of Makueni recently held a Level 1 Sevens Coaching Course as part of its preparations for the upcoming Term 2 School Games.
The course, facilitated by Kenya Rugby Union’s Training and Education Coordinator George “Malik” Ndemi attracted a total of 12 participants, all male, drawn from the County’s teaching fraternity who were assessed on their knowledge of the game before being taken through introductory modules in sevens rugby as well as coaching styles before being certified at the close of the two day exercise at Makueni Boys High School on 17/18 May.
They were also taken through sessions in practical coaching as well as drawing up coaching plans.
Ndemi, speaking to Kenya Rugby, said, ” The interest levels in the sport are quite high in this county…we have even received a request for an officiating course…something that we hope to get done in the near future. With a lot more support in terms of resource allocation and follow ups, Makueni has the potential to churn out rugby talent in the coming years.”
