KRU Championship side South Coast Pirates hosted a Get Into Rugby coaching course in Diani on Monday 11 December 2017. The course, facilitated by Rugby Africa Regional Development Officer Johnbosco Muamba and attracted a total of 15 participants.
This course, intended for the South Coast region, was driven by the following objectives.
- To ensure safe coaching in accordance with World Rugby and Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) guidelines.
- To establish foundations and clear progression path across all age groups in primary schools and onwards for the teams at the coast.
- To help coaches plan and deliver quality sessions using the coaching card.
- To create an enabling and fun environment for players and coaches to enjoy rugby playing and coaching.
Kenny Andola from the South Coast Pirates said, ” The training was a great eye opener for the attendees. They are betterequipped to help children begin tolove the game and be involved in it in entirely. The coaches appreciated the ideals of the game and now know the importance of teaching values of the game aside from the skills. ”
“This has equipped our coaches who will be a big part of our primary schools development plan in 2018. We believe this will be a great foundation for the club to thrive in the near future,” he added.
Muamba on his part said, ” we need to look at our immediate environment and see what talent we have around….go to schools and use the program to introduce the game…tap the talent and have the kids stay in the game for longer.”
