On October 1st, 2023, Masinde Muliro University was abuzz with intellectual fervor as 130 young boys from Koyonzo Boys, Vihiga Boys, Kakamega School, and Nambale High School gathered for the highly-anticipated Western Region Prescot competition. The day’s events unfolded with enthusiasm, camaraderie, and a fierce quest for knowledge.
The first semi-final witnessed Kakamega School and Koyonzo Boys competing in a gripping battle of intellect. Koyonzo Boys proved their mettle, securing a decisive victory with a score of 24-0, earning a coveted spot in the finals.
The second semi-final featured Nambale High School and Vihiga Boys. Vihiga Boys showcased their profound knowledge and determination, overpowering Nambale High School with an impressive score of 36-0, booking their place in the finals.
The quest for excellence continued in the third-place match, where Nambale High School faced Kakamega School. It was a spirited contest, with Kakamega School emerging victorious, securing third place with a final score of 24-7.
In a thrilling conclusion, Koyonzo boys emerged as the champions of the Western Region Prescot High School Rugby Games with a narrow in over Vihiga as the game ended 05 -0 ., securing their well-deserved victory.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Ochieng Ahaya, Director of Development at the Kenya Rugby Union . In his motivational speech, he emphasized the principle of competition against oneself. Mr. Ahaya stressed that while talent might provide the opportunity to step onto the rugby field, it is the relentless effort and positive attitude that will ensure long-term success and keep one on the path to improvement.
