Hosts and defending champions Shujaa reached the cup quarterfinals at the Safari Sevens after an unbeaten day one in Pool A. They started their campaign with a 53-0 win over Stanbic Mwamba before stopping Apache 40-0. They would end their day one activity with a 38-12 victory over Namibia.

Samurai topped Pool B after beating Red Wailers 21-5 before stopping Emerging Uganda 50-7. A 19-14 win over Spain confirmed their pole position and cup quarterfinal qualification.

Kenya’s second representative side, Morans, finished top of Pool C with a 100% record. They started the day with a 19-12 win over Uganda before edging Portugal 12-5. They ended the day with a 24-7 win over Menengai Cream Homeboyz.
