Shujaa bagged their second win of the Los Angeles after beating Wales 29-5 on day two of the tournament held at the Dignity Health Sports Park. This encounter was the 13th place semifinal, Shujaa had earlier in the day lost 28-19 to Samoa in the Challenge Trophy.

Wales drew first blood in the second minute of the match as Lloyd Lewis went over the whitewash, the conversion drifted wide for them to hold on to the 5-0 lead. An injured Shujaa was just settling into the match and a minute later, William Ambaka was next on the try-scorers’ list as he dotted down a center post try. Sammy Oliech adding the extras for a 7-5 score, Shujaa taking the two-point lead.

Oliech landed Shujaa’s second try off a powerful counter-attack by the physical forwards that lead up to Wales losing the ball. Oliech pounced on it and eased his way to the try box scoring at the corner with the conversion missing the posts for a 12-5 half time score.

In the second half, Oscar Dennis extended Shujaa’s lead to 17-5 as he cut through the weak defensive line going over the whitewash. Sammy Oliech set up a hard-running Oscar Ouma to flash through two uncertain defenders and make his way to score Shujaa’s fourth try, conversion once again sailing wide.

Jeffrey Oluoch was last on the scoresheet to as he fended his defenders on the wing making his way to the in-goal area and scoring Shujaa’s fifth and final try of the match. Daniel Taabu added the extras for a 29-5 full time score. They will meet Scotland in the LA Sevens 13th place final at 1:07 am EAT.
