The Kenya Rugby Union is proud to welcome the 17th edition of the Prinsloo sevens, the second leg of the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
The tournament was first played in 2007 to celebrate Pete Walter (Peter) Prinsloo, a South African player who revitalized rugby in the Nakuru region during the 1980s. It has grown to become one of the main-stays on the Sportpesa National Sevens Circuit calendar.
In recent years, the men’s tournament has been played in two divisions to accommodate the rising number of interested teams and growth of the sport. The first division features 16 teams while division Two hosts 20 teams.
The division one Pooling is arrived at following these steps; the top 12 teams from the preceding tournament, in this case the Driftwood sevens, the 13th slot goes to the Division two winner, with the host Club inviting the 3 clubs of their picking to complete the 16 division one teams.
The selection of the twenty Division II teams are selected based on the following criteria:
- KRU Affiliate clubs
- Clubs based in the same region as the host club.
- Performance based off previous leg, in this case the Driftwood7s
- Ability to travel/Regional Based
This year’s Prinsloo Sevens received over 50 requests from clubs within the country requesting to participate in the tournament, however, KRU would only grant availability for 20 teams, as stipulated above.
