Curtain Falls on National Sevens Circuit – Provisional Squad Named
After six thrilling legs across five vibrant cities, the 2025 National Sevens Circuit has come to an electrifying close. The tournament has showcased the finest of Kenya’s rugby talent, with unforgettable action and unearthing new stars destined for the national stage.
The Head coach, Kevin Wambua, and the chairman of selectors, Elijah Toili, have today named a provisional squad of 48 players who will now embark on the next critical phase of their rugby journey. This group represents the top performers and promising prospects identified throughout the circuit, forming part of the feeder program for Kenya’s senior sevens teams -Shujaa and Morans.
The squad will officially enter its next phase on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi. This process is designed not only to test the players’ skills, fitness, and game awareness but also to instill the discipline and resilience required at the highest level of international sevens rugby.
“This is an exciting time for the men’s team as Shujaa prepare for the 2025-2026 International Sevens season. The provisional squad is an excellent blend of youth and experience. I am pleased to see that the selectors and head coach have recognised the performance of players from a broad spectrum of clubs who participated in the National Sevens Circuit. Getting a call up is just the first step; the hard work is impressing the coach at training over the next week to make the final squad. My expectations is that the process will give us a squad capable of getting Kenya a place in the top division of the HSBC sevens circuit. Secondly, we will be able to select an U20 7s squad for the very first time to give a pathway to our young players journey to the Shujaa and Morans teams” said Paul Odera – Director of Rugby and Pathway Manager, Kenya Rugby Union.
