National Sevens Teams Enter High-Performance Camp Ahead of South America Legs
Following the conclusion of the Nairobi leg of the HSBC SVNS2 leg, the national sevens teams Lionesses and Shujaa have shifted focus to high-performance training and technical alignment as they intensify preparations for the upcoming South American legs.
The two squads are currently in a week-long residential training camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, where emphasis will be placed on tactical refinement, physical conditioning, and squad cohesion.
The Lionesses, who secured 5th-place finish during the Nairobi leg, have set their sights firmly on breaking into the top three in both the HSBC SVNS2 tournaments in Montevideo and São Paulo.
Speaking ahead of the camp, Lionesses Head Coach Simon Odong’o reiterated the team’s ambition:
“Our target is clear, we want to finish in the top three in both Montevideo and São Paulo. That gives us a real opportunity to compete in the Championship playoffs, which is our ultimate goal.”
On the men’s side, Shujaa Head Coach Kevin Wambua expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness and determination as they continue their quest to return to the HSBC SVNS main series.
“The boys are sharp, focused, and ready. Our goal is to get back to the main series stage nothing less. Every session in this camp is geared toward that objective.”
Both teams remain firmly in contention for Championship qualification, with valuable points still up for grabs in the remaining legs. A strong showing in South America will be crucial in securing a pathway back to the main HSBC SVNS circuit.
- Montevideo Leg – 21st – 22nd March
- Sao Paulo Leg – 28th – 29th March
The teams’ are set to depart for South America on the 15th of this month and return at the end of the month. Fixtures will be shared later.
