The Kenya U20 team popularly known as Chipu kicked off their training sessions on Tuesday 7 January 2020 with Strength and Conditioning sessions at the RFUEA Grounds.

The team that was selected after the final trials held on Sunday 5th January will be having the Conditioning sessions every Tuesday and Thursday while Sundays, will have half-day camps at Peponi School in Ruiru.

Speaking at the trials, Head Coach Paul Odera mentioned that he, together with his technical team, went round the Country holding regional trials. “It is good to see that we have a lot of talent across the country and what is very exciting is that the boys are keen and ready to learn. Today’s goal is to see which of the players we saw during the regions can step up and fulfill the potential we saw,” he said.

During the trials, several of the players who featured for the Chipu 2019 squad were having their SnC session in the gym as they are still eligible to participate in all Under 20 competitions this year.

“The fact that nearly half of the team that represented Africa and Kenya in the World Rugby u20 Trophy in Brazil in 2019 and finished 6th is a big boost to the team. However, we are under no illusions of the work required to defend the cup as teams will come hard thus the mental frame has to be Astute,” added Team Manager Jimmy Mnene.

Chipu is the Barthes Cup defending Champions after they lifted the trophy in April 2019 at the KCB Sports Ground.
