Mwangi Muthee, Kenya Rugby Union Chairman between 2011 and 2014 pays tribute to Hage Geingbo, the President of Namibia who passed away on 4 February 2024.

WE are sad about recent death of Namibia President, Hage Geingob, yet proud of his achievements and of having known him and interacted with him. To Africa’s and Kenya’s sporting world he will be remembered with endearment and be greatly missed.

They are talking about a giant of a man – literally – and because of his contribution to the African cause. We knew him; before he became President of Namibia, as down-to-earth sports person, a rugby man and Patron of that country’s Rugby Union.

His warmth and generosity was a testament that he was an unpretentious person. He brought out his intellect and fervent energy; he enjoyed life and lit up the room in which we Kenyans were. It was to no one’s surprise that he ascended to the highest office of the nation, as President of Namibia. But first, in rugby and in many other spheres in the world, he represented his country well. He embodied the true spirit of rugby, and personified Namibia’s spirit of camaraderie, comradeship and servant leadership.

Rest in Peace, Sportsman, Statesman,

President Hage Geingob.

From Mwangi Muthee, Former KRU Chairman ( 2011-2014)
