South Africa Women’s 7s team extended their winning streak to three games with a dominant 33-5 win over China in the first game of day two at the ongoing HSBC SVNS 2.
Tournament debutant Shannon-Lee Windvogel seems to have found her feet at just the right time as she got herself a brace in the game. Speedster Ayanda Malinga also scored a five-pointer in the game.
The second game was a close one as the Las Leonas of Spain beat the Yaras of Brazil 29-21. This was one of those unique games where twins Thalita Da Silva Costa and Thalia Costa started the game together with Thalia extending her streak of scoring in every game in the tournament with yet another try.
Spain’s Carmen Miranda got a brace for her troubles.
In the last game of the women’s round 1, Kenya Lionesses were unable to bounce back to winning ways against Argentina, losing 5-0. The Lionesses backed by a sizable home crowd put on a valiant defensive performance but were unable to capitalise on their attacking opportunities.
Marianela Escalante got the only try of the game.
The last round of the women’s competition will take place from 1512 hrs with South Africa taking on Argentina, followed by Brazil vs China and lastly Spain vs Kenya.
