KENYA LIONESSES SET FOR SPAIN HIGH-PERFORMANCE CAMP AHEAD OF HSBC SVNS 2 NAIROBI LEG
The Kenya Lionesses will travel to Spain for a high-performance training camp as part of their preparations for the opening leg of the HSBC SVNS 2, which will be hosted in Nairobi on 14th – 15th February 2026.
A selected squad of 14 players will depart for Alicante on 26th January, where they will take part in a one-week camp, before returning to Kenya on 31 January 2026.
The squad selection follows an intensive training block, with the coaching and high-performance staff rewarding players who demonstrated consistency, resilience and strong on-field performances. The selection also reflects on the commitment to recognising consistent performers from recent competitions, including the Safari Sevens and Africa Sevens tournaments played earlier in 2025.
The Lionesses will be captained by Sheila Chajira, with Freshia Oduor named vice-captain. The squad is further strengthened by the return of Stella Wafula, who rejoins the team following a high-performance training programme in the United States, and Grace Okullu who will join the team in Spain from France.
During the camp, Kenya will play a series of competitive training matches against Spain and Belgium, providing the team with valuable exposure to high-quality opposition in a demanding European environment.
“The decision to base the camp in Europe forms part of the team’s wider performance strategy, aimed at testing combinations, improving match fitness and sharpening tactical execution ahead of the Nairobi leg of HSBC SVNS 2”, said Simon, Kenya Lionesses head coach.
The Spain camp represents a key milestone in the Lionesses’ build-up as they prepare to compete on home soil, with the Nairobi leg marking the first step in their HSBC SVNS 2 campaign.
