Kenya Lionesses Through to Playoff Finals in LA After Narrow Win Over Colombia

The Kenya Lionesses are through to the Playoff Finals at the ongoing 2025 HSBC Sevens tournament in Los Angeles after a dramatic 7-5 win over Colombia in their final pool match. The victory capped a tough pool stage campaign for the Lionesses, who had endured back-to-back losses in their earlier games.

Kenya opened their campaign against the Spanish side, falling 33-14 in their tournament opener. The second match saw them face South American -Brazil, and although the Kenyans fought hard, they suffered a second loss that left their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

However, in their final pool game against Colombia, Sharon Auma got the points for the Lionesses with an addition of 2 points, putting them on the scoreboard and ahead of Colombia. Kenya’s lone converted try proved just enough to edge past Colombia, who could only manage an unconverted try of their own.

The 7-5 win secured Kenya a place in the Playoff Finals where they will now face familiar rivals, South Africa. The all-African final will kick off at 12:16 AM EAT, and with a spot in the tier 2 rugby category on the line, both teams are expected to bring their best game yet.
