The Kenya Rugby Union has received a significant boost ahead of the 2026 HSBC SVNS2 after the Kenya Power Foundation committed KShs. 3 million in sponsorship for the landmark tournament set for 14th and 15th February at Nyayo National Stadium.
The support is channelled through the Foundation’s social investment and community well-being pillar and will be directed towards the delivery of a regional Under-16 rugby series to be staged alongside the global Sevens event. The initiative is set to provide at least 96 young players from across the country with a rare opportunity to showcase their talent on the same stage as the world’s elite rugby athletes.For the Kenya Rugby Union, the partnership reinforces its long-term focus on youth development and grassroots pathways, leveraging major international events to inspire and nurture the next generation of players. Integrating the Under-16 series into the HSBC SVNS2 programme strengthens the tournament’s local impact while aligning with KRU’s development objectives.
The Kenya Power Foundation’s backing reflects a shared commitment to using sport as a tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion and community well-being. By investing in junior rugby, the Foundation continues to position sport as a catalyst for leadership development, discipline and opportunity among young people.The 2026 HSBC SVNS2 forms part of World Rugby’s three-tier Global Sevens Framework, designed to create clearer progression routes to elite international rugby while ensuring full gender parity across all competitions. The Nairobi leg further cements Kenya’s status on the global rugby map, with the country joining South Africa as the only African nations to have hosted a World Rugby Sevens International event for both men and women.
Since its establishment in September 2024, the Kenya Power Foundation has rolled out a series of social impact programmes across the country, spanning education, water and sanitation, infrastructure rehabilitation and sport. Its support of the HSBC SVNS2 adds another layer of legacy to an event poised to deliver both world-class rugby and meaningful community outcomes.
