On the 2019 International Women’s Day, 8th March, The KRU Training and Education Department held first Level 1 Coaching 15s Course of the year 2019 for “Leading Women in Rugby” initiative to educate at least four women in each club locally. Other courses to be held later in the year include Level 1 Officiating, First Aid In Rugby and Strength and Conditioning Level 1 Courses.

“We held the World Rugby 15s Coaching Level 1 Course, that was fully targeting the Ladies’ participating in the Women’s Festival, last Friday at the RFUEA Grounds. We are trying to do is improve on the numbers of women taking part in the management of the game as well as ensure the same ladies fully understand the technical areas of the games when they are playing.

Undergoing this course makes them understand the game from a different perspective and not just what they are used to as players, this will help them become better players. One of our 2019 goals was to ensure all the ladies taking part in either the 10 Aside festival or the 15 Aside festival have their Level One Coaching and Match Officiating Certificates.

It also gives them an opportunity to become Coaches or Match Officials when they finally decide to step aside of being active players on the pitch.” said Nicholas Aballa, the Age Grade and Women Coordinator.

The participants of this course were mostly players who take part in the KRU Women’s Festival.
