KCB go 10 points clear after triumphant Christie 7s campaign

KCB beat Top Fry Nakuru 12-7 in what has been the tightest final in the 2019 Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit. Monate Akuei was first on the score sheet as he cut through the Bankers’ defense landing a center post try that was converted by Geoffrey Ominde for a 7-0 lead.

KCB would then be reduced to 6 men after Geoffrey Okwach was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle, the Bankers keeping their cool and not conceding another try in the two minutes. Upon his return to the pitch and with seconds left to the breather, Okwach maneuvered his way through the Nakuru defense and landed a try with the tournament’s MVP Levi Amunga adding the extras for a 7-7 half time score.

Both sides’ attack and defense drills worked for them in equal measure as none managed to score in this half. In the last play, an attempt by Johnstone Olindi to land KCB’s winning try did not see the light of day as a Nakuru’s were on full alert. Full time score 7-7.

After several attempts at landing the winning try, KCB’s attacking pace and physicality resulted in Elphas Adunga exploiting a gap left by Nakuru to dive over the whitewash giving KCB their third Series win and extending their overall lead on the table with ten points.

They now have a total of 94 points followed by Stanbic Mwamba with 84 points. Christie7s runners up op Fry Nakuru have reduced the gap between them and Mwamba to a one-pointer as Nakuru now have a total of 83 points completing the current top three teams in the Circuit.

Menengai Cream Homeboyz finished 5th on the log after beating Nondescript RFC 24-00, hosts Kenya Harlequins bagged the Challenge Trophy with their 31-5 win over Blakblad while Northern Suburbs beat Egerton Wasps 21-12 to claim the 13th place trophy.
