KCB wrapped up their #Driftwood7s Day One having secured the 2019 Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit Title. This came after their closest competitors Stanbic Mwamba and Top Fry Nakuru slipped up in their pool stages and dropped to the Challenge Trophy  while the Bankers secured their Cup quarterfinal slot having topped Pool A.

Heading into this tournament, KCB hold a ten-point and eleven-point lead over Stanbic Mwamba and Top Fry Nakuru respectively. KCB 94 points, Mwamba 84 and Nakuru 83 points. With the Bankers’ already through to the cup quarterfinals, the minimum points they can leave with are ten assuming they drop to the fifth place and fail to reach the final. This brings their total to 104 points. For Nakuru and Mwamba, the maximum they are assured of is eight points assuming one of them lifts the Challenge Trophy which carries eight points with it meaning if Mwamba win the Trophy, they have 92 points and if its Nakuru who win, they’ll have 91 points.

KCB kicked off their day one with a 36-0 win over Administration Police, their second fixture saw them hand Kenya Harlequins their only loss on Day one going down 31-0 before the Bankers sealed off their day one with a 22-12 win over a stubborn Masinde Muliro University. They booked a date with Menengai Oilers who finished second in Pool B after a nervy day one performance.

Blakblad progressed to the cup quarterfinals after having a stellar day one performance that saw them beat Menengai Oilers 10-7 before a narrow 7-5 win over the Driftwood7s defending champions sealed their place in the top eight. Oilers and Nakuru were left to battle it out for a slot in the cup quarters when they met in their last Pool B match where the Gibson Weru Charges did not leave anything to chance as they handed their seniors a 5-14 loss.

Resolution Impala Saracens and Nondescripts RFC earned their Cup quarterfinal spot in Pool C as both secured two Pool match wins while the Northern Suburbs Cubs and Strathmore Leos dropped to the Challenge Trophy.

Pool D had Menengai Cream Homeboyz and Kabras Sugar RFC earn their Cup quarterfinals spots while Stanbic Mwamba and Mean Machine drop to the Challenge Trophy. The Deejayz kicked off their day one with a 22-5 win over Kabras and supplemented this win with two draws; 14-14 with the Mean Machine and a 12-12 with Stanbic Mwamba. Kabras upped their performance in match two and three securing a much needed win over Stanbic Mwamba and Mean Machine, 19-17 and 7-5 respectively to secure their Cup quarterfinal appearance.
