Mike Okello starred this afternoon as Stanbic Mwamba beat Nondies RFC 55-22 at the Jamhuri Showgrounds. Okello was at the heart of four of Mwamba’s nine tries.

Nondies were first on the scoresheet as Biko Adema drilled in a penalty kick off an infringement by Mwamba. The lead was however short-lived after Mike Okello cut through two defenders on the left wing to land Kulabu’s first try, the conversion was short; Nondies 3- Mwamba 5.

Two minutes later, Nondies scored a center post try through former Kenya International Ronnie Mwenesi. Adema’s conversion bringing the scores to 10-5 in their favor. Within the next seven minutes, Mwamba scored three tries in quick succession through Steve Sikuta, Mike Okello and Christopher Asira with Brian Mwangi converting Sikuta’s and Okello’s tries but missing Asira’s.

Nondies landed their second try before went over the whitewash twice before the stroke of halftime. The scores reading 15-34.

The second half saw Stanbic Mwamba pick up from where they left off in the first forty minutes as Mike Okello cut through the weak Nondies defensive line making his way to the try line. He generously offloaded to Ronnie Omondi who landed his team’s seventh try that was moments later complemented by Joel Inzuga diving over the whitewash for Kulabu’s eight.

Mark Ong’ayo spotted and exploited the uncovered blindside during a breakdown and made his way to the try line landing Nondies third try. The conversion was good and reduced the gap to 22-48.

Kulabu, however, had the last laugh as Paul Wahome landed his side’s ninth and final try, Tony Omondi adding the conversion for a 22-55 full-time score. A performance that saw Stanbic Mwamba secure their playoff spot.

The second fixture and arguably the most awaited one featuring Homeboyz RFC and KCB RC ended in a stalemate, both sides scoring 22 points each.

Homeboyz drew first blood as Meshack Akenga dived over the whitewash for a center post try, Evin Asena converted. Eleven minutes later KCB was penalized for not releasing the tackle and Asena drilled in an extra three points extending their lead to 10-0.

A penalty against Homeboyz saw KCB kick in three points before the Deejayz landed their second try through KenyanSevens International Leonard Mugaisi. The conversion went wide for a 15-3 score.

KCB landed two tries in the span of ten minutes with one conversion being successful, reducing the gap to 15-13. The Bankers kicked in three penalties taking the 22-15 lead over the hosts. After several attacking attempts at the Bankers’ 5M, Homeboyz finally landed their much-needed try and converted bring the scores to 22-22 at full time.

In Nakuru, Menengai Oilers beat the Kenya Harlequins 39-13 to cement their sixth place on the Kenya Cup log and with it securing their playoff spot. Kabras beat Blakblad 15-3 while Top Fry Nakuru and Resolution Impala Saracens benefited from walkovers as Western Bulls and Kisumu were unable to honor the fixtures respectively.
