Simbas roar past the Cranes

Kenya started their 2018 test season with a 34-16 win away to Uganda in Elgon Cup first leg action at the Legends club in Kampala on Saturday 26 May 2018.

Jacob Ojee’s converted try put the Simbas 7-0 up before an Ivan Magomu penalty off a Kenyan infringement got the Rugby Cranes first points on the board.

Darwin Mukidza’s penalty put Kenya 10-3 up before converting tries from Leo Seje and Oliver Mang’eni to give Ian Snook’s charges a commanding 24-3 lead, the score a reflection of Simba’s dominance to this point.

The loss of test debutant Patrick Ouko to the sin bin handed Uganda the impetus to prod the Kenyans, Magomu drilling home two penalties to bring the scores to 24-9 at the interval.

Uganda looked sharp at the setpiece and were rewarded with a second half try, Asuman Mugerwa’s converted try bringing the score to 24-16 but the Simbas still had something  in the tank, Elkeans Musonye and Biko Adema going over the whitewash to secure the result.

We are happy with the result, happy that we played for the win. We still made too many mistakes which can be costly. We know we need to work on that if we are to have a much better  season,” said Davis Chenge who captained the side.
