Daniel Taabu landed a brace in Shujaa’s second Pool C match as they fell 14-17 to USA. Taabu sliced through the USA defense line to land the opening try three minutes into the match and he added the conversion for a 7-0 Shujaa lead.
The lead was however short lived as USA, who were deep in Kenyan half split open the defense line for Carlin Isles to land a center post try and the successful conversion that followed, leveled the scores to 7 all. An infringement in the last play resulted in Isle’s scoring his second try and giving his side a 12-7 lead at the breather. USA extended their lead to 17-7 as Madison Hughes raced down the blind side off a scrum scoring the third try.
Taabu’s brace came off a scrum, with a keen eye he spotted the lack of a defender on the left side of the pitch and maximized on this opportunity, racing down the pitch to score under the posts. Conversion splitting the posts successfully.
At the restart and with 40 seconds left on the clock, a forward pass by the USA resulted in a Kenyan scrum. Shujaa ready to give it their all and score what would be their winning try were slowed down after an infringement at the breakdown that saw the referee award USA the penalty. The eagles run down the clock with ease securing the 17-14 win over Shujaa.
Earlier, Shujaa lost 7-36 to England with the solitary try coming from Bush Mwale. Their next match is at 12:38pm against Wales.
