We caught up with KRU Secretary Oduor Gangla as the National sevens team, Shujaa returned from the opening rounds of the 2017/18 HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai and Cape Town. He commented on the side’s outings at the two tournaments, saying the team is capable of challenging for top honors on the series.

While the team reached the cup quarters in Dubai, they were unable to replicate the same performance in Cape Town, something he termed it as unlucky seeing as the side was leading in the first half against France but they had critical lapses in the second half that saw Shujaa concede three tries. “The team has to pick itself up and improve on its execution because it’s those little errors around the ball handling and breakdown especially when the pressure is high. The tournament is very tight, a lot of teams have stepped up their game and it’s really about whom on the day puts it together,” he said.

He was very encouraged by the performance of players such as Brian Tanga who led the Cape Town leg with the most line breaks during the weekend and singled out rookies such as Samuel Ng’ethe, Arthur Owira and as well as Jeff Oluoch,  on the team and went ahead to state that the future of Shujaa is very bright.

Jeff Oluoch.

He also, on behalf of the board, took the opportunity to wish both Dennis Ombachi and Collins Injera a speedy recovery after the two picked injuries during the Dubai leg.
