On Thursday 14th of March 2019, the Ministry of Education through the Early Learning and Basic Education Wajir County hosted for the first time a Refereeing and Umpiring Workshop. The workshop which was expedited by the Kenya Secondary Schools Association (KSSA) which partnered with 10 other Sports Federations and Unions including Kenya Rugby Union.

“The 39 degree weather at Wajir High School for three days saw participants from Mandera, Garissa and Wajir take part in the Level 1 Introduction to Match Officiating course. The participants were taken through the beginner’s guide to rugby union in which they were sensitized on the history & ethos, the World Rugby core values & playing charter, how to be rugby ready, first aid and the Laws of the game in general which touched on the laws of the game which then officiating.” said Peris Mukoko, one of Kenya’s top Match Officials who was tasked with running this course.


The other disciplines that the workshop also facilitated included Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball, Table Tennis and Volleyball.
