The Kenya Rugby Union has appointed a highly experienced panel to oversee the selection of players from the ongoing National Sevens Circuit who will be considered for call-ups to the national team. The panel brings together a wealth of expertise from various facets of the game, ranging from technical coaching and player development to administration and analysis.

Below is a brief profile of the panelists:

Paul Odera
Currently serving as the Director of Rugby at the Kenya Rugby Union, Odera is also a certified World Rugby Educator. With vast experience gained through years of involvement as a player, coach, and educator, he has been instrumental in shaping rugby structures both locally and internationally. His comprehensive understanding of the game and its development pathways positions him as a key figure in the identification and nurturing of talent.

Bernard Rotich
Rotich is a collaborative and solutions-oriented rugby professional with an impressive record in player identification, development, and performance improvement. He has successfully coached both Sevens and Fifteens rugby at the highest levels in Kenya, including leading Blak Blad RFC to their first Kenya Cup playoffs in 50 years. A holder of the World Rugby Level 2 coaching certification, Rotich combines technical expertise with strong leadership, squad management, and talent identification skills.

Elijah Toili
Toili brings valuable insight as a former international player. He represented Kenya on the Sevens circuit between 2003 and 2004, participating in multiple international tournaments. He also served as vice-captain of Shujaa during the 2003 Safari Sevens and was a member of the Kenya Under-21 team in 1999. His playing experience at the highest level, coupled with his analytical role, ensures a keen eye for identifying emerging talent.

Oscar Osir
A seasoned rugby figure, Osir represented Kenya Sevens between 1999 and 2006. Beyond his playing career, he served as the team manager of Shujaa from 2007 to 2010. He captained Impala RFC, was vice-captain of the Kenya Simbas, and captained the Kenya Sevens team. Additionally, he was the head coach of MSC Rugby between 2008 and 2010. His leadership roles across multiple capacities highlight his deep knowledge of the game and strong background in player mentorship.

Kevin Wambua
The current Kenya Sevens head coach, Wambua has risen through the ranks of the national team structures, serving in various capacities with the Kenya Lionesses, Kenya Under-20, and Shujaa before eventually taking on the head coach role. At the club level, he has also coached Mwamba RFC, further honing his tactical and leadership skills. His broad experience across both men’s and women’s rugby underscores his commitment to player growth and team success.
