The Simbas began their Currie Cup first division campaign with a 51-14 defeat to Valke at the Bosman Stadium in Johanesburg, South Africa on Saturday 9 April 2022. The first division is the second tier of the tournament.

They went into the interval trailing 32-0 before Samuel Asati touched down after the interval, Jone Kubu converting for a 32-7 score.

The Simbas, who are using the Currie Cup as part of their build up for the upcoming Rugby World Cup African qualifiers in France, would concede three more tries before Kubu converted Brian Tanga’s try.
