The 59th edition of the Christie 7s kicked off with very exciting matches. Hosts Kenya Harlequin started the day with a 34-15 victory against Mombasa Rugby before Zetech Oaks stunned the crowd with a 19-17 win. Nakuru RFC bagged their win after seeing off MMUST 22-7 in the first Pool B match, followed by the Catholic Monks’ 33-05 thrashing Impala RFC.

The Rai Family dominated pitch C action as Kabras Sugar RFC beat Ugandan-based side RugaRuga Select 34-05 as Menengai Oilers narrowly edged out Daystar 15-12. Pool D action saw Mwamba come back from 0-17 score at half time to level it to 17-17 against KU Blakblad as KCB beat Nondies 37-12 to complete the first round of matches.

Round two of the men’s Division One had two upsets as Impala beat Nakuru 19-05 while Daystar saw off Kabras 17-14 in a match that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Despite the loss against Catholic Monks, Impala secured their first Cup quarterfinal this season after beating Nakuru RFC 19-05 and MMUST 19-12. Joining them in this achievement was Daystar Falcons who also booked a slot in the cup quarterfinals following their win over Kabras and a 38-05 victory over RugaRuga Select.

Nondies also stormed into the final by securing two wins, 17-14 over Mwamba and 10-00 over KU Blakblad. Catholic Monks, Kenya Harlequin, Strathmore Leos, KCB and Menengai Oilers maintained their Cup quarterfinal appearance as seen in Nakuru a fortnite ago.

Kabras Sugar and Nakuru RFC find themselves in unfamiliar territory this season after dropping to the Challenge Trophy quarterfinal after Kabras lost two matches and won one while Nakuru won one match, lost one and drew in their final encounter.

In the Women’s Tier One category, Kenya Harlequin drew in both their matches; 12-12 against Impala and 17-17 against the Northern Suburbs. The Prinsloo 7s champions, Mwamba RFC kicked off their day with a 37-00 victory over Northern Suburbs followed by a 27-10 win against Impala.

In Tier Two category, NYS Ladies kicked off their day with a 33-00 victory over Kulabu ladies and later sealed off their second win with a 23-17 Rongo University. Ruck It Rugby lost 10-12 to Rongo University but bounced back in their second match as they beat Kulabu ladies 46-00.
