In an intense match that had to be stopped due to bad weather conditions, the Strathmore Leos saw off the KCB Lions 24-07 with a little over three minutes left to full time in the second leg of the 2025 #Sportpesa7s, the #Prinsloo7s
Strathmore showed their intent to defend the title with a first-minute try as Victor Mola rounded the KCB defenders from deep in their red zone to land the first try of the match. A few moments later, Strathmore retained the kick off and made their way to the try box but Samuel Asati’s showed his defensive skills by getting Mola into touch. However, the lineout resulted in the second try scored by Stanslaus Shikoli, but the conversion drifted wide to bring the scores to 10-00.
KCB pulled one back as Bob Muhati landed a converted try but the celebration was short-lived as Strathmore displayed simple yet effective ball handling skills by the ball wide to find the fast-paced Mola whose try extended his side’s lead to 17-07.
Barnabus Owuor landed the fourth try extending the Leo’s lead to 24-7 at the break. The score remained the same for majority of the second half before the match had to be stopped due to the bad weather in Nakuru. The score remained as such with Strathmore Leos retaining the Prinsloo 7s trophy they won in 2024 after beating Nondies in that final.
The Catholic Monks finished third after beating Menengai Oilers 17-10, hosts Nakuru RFC secured the 5th place position after seeing off Kenya Harlequin FC 19-24. This match ended in a 19-19 draw, resulting in both teams heading into extra time where Nakuru bagged the victory.
In the Challenge Trophy, Daystar Falcons saw off Nondies 31-07 while Mombasa beat Stallions 12-05 in the 13th Place Final.
Strathmore Leos’ Victor Mola picked all individual tries in Division 1; Top Try scorer with a total of 8 tries, he was also the top point scorer with 40 points thus collecting the player of the final award that was awarded by the headline Sponsor, Sportpesa. The award came with a KES 10,000/- cash prize from Sportpesa.
The same went to Edith Nariaka who was the top try, top point and player of the final in the ladies’ category where Mwamba won with a 15-05 victory over the Kenya Harlequin Queens. Edith scored a total of 10 tries during the #Prinsloo7s and received the player of the Final Award from Sportpesa.
In Division Two, the Prinsloo7s winners KU Blakblad received a cash prize of 50,000/- courtesy of Sportpesa while Elvis Otete received a player of the final award. Elvis was also the top try and top point scorer in Division Two.
