Mwamba have secured their place in history as five-time consecutive Kenya Cup champions following a hard-fought 30-20 victory over Quins in a thrilling final.
Mwamba drew first blood early in the match, with Edith crossing over in the corner to hand her side the opening advantage. The momentum continued as Shebesh, making a return to the club, powered through for Mwamba’s second try.
Yvette broke through Mwamba’s defense to register their first points, before Milka slotted in a penalty off a Mwamba infringement to narrow the gap to 10-8. With the first half drawing to a close, Chajira delivered a crucial blow for Quins, to hand her side a 13-10 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Mwamba side return with intent. Laura restored Mwamba’s lead with a try, before Irene added another, extending the advantage to 20-13 as Mwamba began to take control of the game.
With ten minutes left on the clock, Edith struck again, chasing down the ball to score and push Mwamba further ahead. Substitute Namnyak then made an immediate impact off the bench, finishing in the corner to take the score to 30-13.
Quins had the final say, with Chajira breaking through Mwamba’s defense to score under the posts, bringing the final score to 30-20.
Despite the late effort from Quins, it was Mwamba who emerged victorious, sealing a historic fifth consecutive Kenya Cup title.
