Chipu wrapped up their World Rugby U20 Trophy Campaign in sixth position after falling 52-13 to Canada in the fifth place play off.

It was Canada that opened up the scores as they cut through Chipu’s defense to land two tries before a penalty against them saw Dominic Coulson drill in a penalty bringing the scores to 12-3. Composure in Chipu’s attack resulted in Hibrahim Ayoo going over the whitewash for Chipu’s first try, conversion sailed wide for a 12-8 score. Canada soon pounced back and landed their third try that was converted successfully for a 19-8 half time score.

For the better part of the second half, Chipu found themselves on the defending side and despite their efforts to hold off the Canadian attacking speed, the defense line was broken five times with four of the tries successfully converted. In open play, in Canada’s red zone, reserve scrum half Samuel Asati cleared the ruck, the ball finding Geofrey Okwach who rounded his defenders landing Chipu’s second and last try in the match. The conversion that followed drifted wide.

The team lands back to the Country on Wednesday 24th July having picked up several lessons from this tournament that they will employ as they resume their training sessions locally.
