KCB lifted the inaugural Kakamega7s title after as they outclassed the Menengai Cream Homeboyz beating them 21-12 in a thrilling encounter hosted by the Western Bulls at the Bull Ring.

Vincent Onyala opened up the scores as he cut through his defenders landing a center post try that was followed by a Levy Amunga conversion. The lead was leveled up by Collins Shikoli’s try at the corner and a successful conversion for a 7-7 half time score.

The second half saw the Bankers extend their lead to 21-7 with tries coming from Isaac Njoroge and John Olindi, conversions by Amunga successfully slicing the posts. In the last minute of the match, Homeboyz narrowed the gap with their second try but the conversion sailed wide, the Bankers securing the first win of the Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit.

The Strathmore Leos beat Nondies 21-19 to lift the 5th place position, Menengai Oilers beat Mean Machine 17-5 to claim the Challenge Trophy title as Western Bulls’ 17-12 win over Kisii saw them finish thirteenth at the end of the tournament.

Semifinals Round up

Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC out shined Top Fry Nakuru in the first cup semifinal beating them 20-0 to secure the finals slot while KCB handed Stanbic Mwamba a 19-5 loss in the second Cup quarterfinal. In the fifth place semifinal, Nondies beat Masinde Muliro University 12-5 as Strathmore stunned Resolution Impala Saracens beating them 19-7.

Menengai Oilers and Mean Machine progressed to the Challenge Trophy final after beating their opponents Egerton Wasps and Kabras Sugar RFC 10-0 and 31-0 respectively. Kisii RFC beat Kisumu 14-12 in the 13th place semifinal as hosts Western Bulls handed the Kenya Harlequins a 7-10 loss.

Cup Quarterfinals Round Up

Menengai Oilers were the first team to secure their cup semifinal slot after edging out a stubborn Nondies RFC beating them 15-5. Brian Juma, Augustine Lugonzo and Collins Shikoli dotted down for the Deejays while Phares Mbali landed Nondies solitary try in the encounter. They meet Top Fry Nakuru who beat MMUST 22-12 in the second cup quarterfinal. MMUST had put up a spirited fight forcing a 12-12 draw before Nakuru bounced back with two tries.

The last two quarterfinals had Stanbic Mwamba edge Resolution Impala Saracens out with a 5-3 win as KCB beat the Strathmore Leos 28-12.

 

Challenge Trophy Quarterfinals

Menengai Oilers got the Kakamega7s Day two underway at 9:00am when they kicked off their challenge Trophy quarterfinal match against Kisumu. Oilers landed secured their semifinal slot after beating their opponents 29-0. The second quarterfinal match saw Egerton Wasps edge Kisii RFC out with a 12-5 win booking a semifinal date with Oilers while Kisii had a 13th place semifinal date with Kisumu.

Mean Machine won their match against the hosts, Western Bulls, beating them 12-0 while Kabras shut Quins out of the Challenge Trophy semifinal after handing them a 5-26 loss in the fourth Quarterfinal match. Machine meeting Kabras in the second Challenge Trophy semifinal and Bulls facing Quins in the second 13th place semifinal.
