Club Combine proved to be too strong for Lioness Select who despite a spirited defense went down 36-8 in their final warm up match at the RFUEA grounds. This was a buildup match before Elgon cup encounter first leg in Kisumu on the 22nd of June 2019.
Janet Okello (fullback) scored a try in the seventh minute after she received a switch pass out wide from Celestine Masinde (centre), with Grace Adhiambo (flyhalf) converting to bring the score 7-0 in favour of Club Combine.
They built on this shortly after with a well worked out move that saw Philadelphia Olando commit her defender and pass to Jamari Agatha (Winger) who showed her pace as she powered her way to the try line.
Lioness Select eventually settled into the game and started to take a strong hold but found it hard to turn territory into points, ending the first half with no score.
Stacey Awuor (Hooker) opened the score sheet for Club Combine in the 50th minute with a powerful drive to continue where they had left in the first half. The side continued to apply consistent pressure and their efforts allowed Celestine Masinde to add two more tries extending Club Combine’s lead.
With Club Combine defense holding well, Lioness Select opted for a penalty goal in the 64th minute, Ann Njeri (Flyhalf) splitting the posts.
Agatha Jamari would conclude Club Select dominant performance with her second try of the day, however, Lioness select would have the last say as captain Imogen Hooper leading from the front would grind through to score their only try of the game.
