Two tries from Billy Odhiambo were not enough as Shujaa began the Hong Kong 7s with a 28-12 loss to Ireland in Pool D action at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday morning.
Odhiambo broke the deadlock in the 5th minute but the Irish responded with Niall Comerford and Jordan Conroy, Mark Roche adding the conversions for a 14-5 lead at the interval.
Odhiambo landed his brace after the break, Tony Omondi converting to bring the score to 14-12 but a series of unforced errors killed Shujaa’s momentum as Conroy landed his brace before Jack Kelly scored at the death, Billy Dardis sure with the conversions.
Shujaa will play their next two fixtures on Saturday.
They will play Argentina at 625am EAT before taking on Canada at 945am EAT the same day.
