Germany, Samurai, and Uganda finished top of their pools having registered three out of three wins on day two of the 2021 Safari Sevens action at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi Kenya. The first day of this tournament was Friday 29th October where age grade rugby was showcased through different tag rugby festivals as well as the legendary Veterans rugby competition.

Pool A

The Germans registered a 17-15 win over Zimbabwe, a 14-12 victory over Shujaa, and a comprehensive 60-5 victory over Nigerian-based Stallion 7s. Shujaa was second in this pool with two out of three victories while Zimbabwe and the Stallion 7s Nigeria came in third and fourth respectively.

In Pool B, Samurai registered 109 points while conceding 19 points in their three day one matches. This saw them have the highest point difference at the close of the first day with 31-12, 38-7, and 40-0 victories over the SA All-Star 7s, Chipu, and Red Wailers respectively.

The Uganda Rugby Cranes were unstoppable in Pool C as they secured their three wins by beating the defending champions Kenya Morans 24-0. They complemented this victory with two other wins beating Spain and KCB 19-10 and 19-14 each to seal off their stellar performance on Saturday 30th October. The National Sevens Circuit defending Champions KCB and Safari Sevens defending Champions Kenya Morans registered one win, one draw, and one loss each in the pool stage. However, the point difference between the two saw KCB finish second in this pool and Morans third. Spain came in fourth.

The Day three action will kick off at 9:00 am with an Age Grade exhibition that will be followed by the women’s matches as Kenya Lionesses II take on Uganda Lady Cranes at 9:20 am.  This last day will also incorporate the veteran’s exhibition before the current crop of players finish off the three-day action with the finals.

This 23rd  edition of the annual Safari Sevens was welcomed back by the presence of rugby fans since covid19 hit the world. It is the first rugby tournament where the government of Kenya through its Ministry of Sports and Health gave the go-ahead for fans to be present in the stadiums.
