The men’s national sevens rugby team collected 5 points from the fifth round of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Singapore this past weekend.

Shujaa exited the competition at the ninth place semifinal stage, having finished third in Pool A, missing out on a slot in the cup quarterfinal.

They started the tourney with a 12-10 loss to the USA, Tony Omondi and Eddy Anya touching down for Innocent Simiyu’s charges before going down 26-5 to South Africa. Alvin Marube was the sole try scorer in this fixture. They would close out pool play with a 24-7 over Canada. Herman Humwa, Kevin Wekesa, Tony Omondi and Eddy Anya scored a try with Omondi managing two conversions.

Tries from Humwa and Billy Odhiambo gave the team a 12-10 victory over Japan in the ninth place quarterfinal final before going down 19-10 to Spain in the ranking semifinal.  Wekesa and Odhiambo landed a try each for Shujaa who are now placed 10th on the standings with 36 points.

Up next for Shujaa is round six in Vancouver, Canada on 16th and 17th April.
