The Kenya Chipu U20 side selected from the Nairobi region recorded a 20-10 victory over their counterparts cherrypicked from the Western side in a Saturday afternoon exhibition match played at the RFUEA Grounds.

In the match that served as the curtain-raiser for Kenya Simbas’ historic Currie Cup Division One clash against South African side Leopards, the Nairobi team showed excellent character to take a 13-10 halftime break after going down first.

The Western U20 outfit had taken a 0-5 lead after landing the game’s first try which was not converted but two similar unconverted tries from Nairobi swung the scores to 10-5.

The Western side however managed to momentarily restore parity in the game as they breached the Chipu defense for a second time but a successful penalty conversion helped the Nairobi side steal a narrow lead at the break.

In a tight second half, only Nairobi select managed to get on the board as they landed a center post try that was easily converted to secure the 20-10 win.

The two sides will again meet next weekend 11 June 2022 when the Simbas take on Eastern Province Elephants in their last game of the Currie Cup Division One tournament.
