A 22-0 win on Wednesday 28 July 2021 over Ireland saw Kenya finish ninth overall in the men’s rugby sevens competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The team had earlier defeated Japan 21-7 to set up this repeat clash against Ireland whom they faced in the preliminary round.

Johnstone Olindi scored and converted on the stroke of half time to give Shujaa a 7-0 lead at the interval.

Three unconverted second half tries from Jacob Ojee, Willy Ambaka and Daniel Taabu secured the 22-0 result in what was Andrew Amonde’s final appearance in a Shujaa jersey after a 13 year playing stint on the side.

Kenya had been placed in Pool C of the competition where they missed out on quarterfinal qualification after three successive losses to the USA ( 14-19), South Africa (5-14) and Ireland (7-12).
