St. Joseph’s Girls,Olbonata and Mema have booked their slots from the Rift Valley region to this weekend’s KRU Girls’ National 7s set for Nakuru County.

The Kitale based St. Joseph’s won the North Rift qualifiers, finishing unbeaten at the close of the round robin competition that they hosted on Saturday 1 October 2022.

They began with a 10-0 win over Kwanza before edging Masaba 5-0 and sealing their ticket to Nakuru with a 15-5 result over Chepkoelel.

Speaking after the competition, Mr Lusaka, the St. Joseph’s Kitale Games Master said, “This was a great opportunity for our girls to take part and even host. Most of the girls have taken to the sport and we will support them. We give thanks to Kenya Rugby for giving us the opportunity to host we really appreciate.’’

Olbonata were victorious in the South Rift, winning their regional competition at the Mema Secondary School in Rongai, Nakuru. Olbonata were also unbeaten at the close of the five team round robin competition. They started with a 10-0 win over hosts Mema before posting a 7-5 result over Gilgil Township. They would follow this up with a 10-0 victory over Jomo Kenyatta Girls and would wrap up their campaign with a 29-0 defeat of J.M Kariuki.

Mema qualified by virtue of being runners up.

The Mema Secondary School administration expressed their delight at hosting the event, saying, “We would like to thank the union for giving us this opportunity to host the event.”

Kenya Rugby Union Regional Development Officer and experienced match official Victor Oduor spoke of the two events, saying, “The competitions went well and most of the girls played well despite the short training period. The basic skills displayed during the competitions were good, with more time they’ll get better.”
