The Kenya Lionesses started off the Second Leg of the HSBC Challenger Series in Uruguay with a 0-12 loss to Hong Kong China as Natasha Olson-Thorne dotted down once in each half to secure her side’s victory. In the second Pool match, the Lionesses bounced back with a convincing 29-12 win over Papua New Guinea. PNG was first to dot down through Alice Alois’s try with the conversion missing the uprights. Lionesses quickly realigned themselves and scored three back-to-back tries through Naomi Amuguni, Janet Okelo and Judith Auma with Grace Adhiambo converting Amuguni’s try and missing the other two. The scoreboard read 17-5 at the break.

In the second half, both side’s exchanged tries: Kenya’s Stella Wafula’s unconverted try and Christabel Lindo’s converted try enveloped PNG’s Joanne Lagona converted try bringing the full time scores to 29-12.

The Lionesses will meet Belgium on Saturday at 6:21EAT.

Kenya Shujaa kicked off their campaign with a 19-12 victory over Portugal. Off a counter attack in our 5M, Kevin Wekesa pounced on the ball and quickly made his way to the try line scoring a center post converted try. Portugal responded two minutes later and following a yellow card to Denis Abukuse, they extended their lead with a converted try. Half time scores read 7-12 in favour of Portugal.

Shujaa made several attempts to score but the Portuguese defense wall was relentless, however, Shujaa kept on piling pressure on their opponents who were penalized in their 5M. Tony Omondi took a quick tap and scored at the corner to level the score to 12-12.

On his debut, Chrisant Ojwang cut through the defenders and landed a converted center post try in the final moments of the match, securing Shujaa’s 19-12 win.

Shujaa later suffered a 0-17 loss to Georgia in their second pool match. They play Tonga at 8:46pm in the last pool match.
