The Kenya Rugby Union Secretariat has taken part in the World Rugby Leadership and Management Course, becoming the first cohort of individuals in Kenya to undertake the specialised programme.The course was conducted on the 31st of August and first of September and was facilitated by World Rugby Educator Paul Odera who doubles up as the Director of Rugby and Pathways Manager of the Kenya Rugby Union.
The course is designed to strengthen leadership and management capacity within rugby administration by equipping participants with practical knowledge, tools and approaches to effective leadership and organisational management. The programme focuses on developing leadership structures and management styles that can contribute to the efficient and proper functioning of rugby unions.
Among the key areas covered were leadership structures, organisational elements, management tools and the values required to effectively lead and manage sporting organisations. The course also provided participants with an opportunity to examine how effective leadership and sound management practices can support decision-making, accountability, teamwork and organisational development.
For the KRU Secretariat, the training is an important step towards strengthening the Union's administrative and operational structures. The knowledge and skills gained will support the Secretariat in improving the way it delivers its mandate and manages the various functions that contribute to the growth and development of rugby in Kenya.
The impact of the programme is also expected to extend beyond the Union's secretariat. Through improved systems, knowledge sharing and stronger administrative practices, the lessons from the course can trickle down to clubs and rugby structures at the grassroots level, helping improve the overall management of the game.
