The 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit got underway on Saturday at the Nakuru Athletics Club, with teams battling through the opening round of the Prinsloo 7s to book their places in the Main Cup quarter-finals. After an entertaining day of pool action, the race for the first title of the season has narrowed to the final eight teams.

The Main Cup quarter-finals will see Kabras Sugar take on Daystar Falcons in the opening clash before KU Blak Blad face Nondescripts. MMUST RFC will then square off against Kenya Harlequin, while KCB Rugby complete the quarter-final lineup with a fixture against hosts Nakuru RFC.

The knockout stage has also produced some notable talking points, with three university sides,KU Blak Blad, MMUST RFC and Daystar Falcons—securing places in the Main Cup quarter-finals after impressive performances on the opening day.Defending champions Strathmore Leos were the biggest casualties of the day, missing out on a place in the Main Cup quarter-finals and dropping into the bowl competiton.

In the division two Kabarak University and Oaks Rugby Club emerged as the standout performers on the opening day of the #Prinsloo7, delivering dominant displays to kick off the 2026 #SportPesa7s circuit.

Kabarak University registered the biggest win of the tournament so far, running in an impressive 57 points against NYS Scorpion. They continued their strong start with a 34-point victory over KCA University before playing out a draw against Makueni, finishing the day unbeaten.

Zetech Oaks also enjoyed a flawless opening day, winning all three of their pool matches in convincing fashion. They began with a commanding 40-7 victory over Nandi Bears before overpowering UOE Trojans 52-5. Oaks rounded off the day, defeating MKU Thika 36-5 to maintain their perfect record.

With both sides carrying strong momentum into the knockout stages, fans can look forward to an exciting second day of action as the battle for the #Prinsloo7s divson 2 title intensifies.

Kabarak will face Nandi Bears in the cup quarters while Zetech Oaks takes on KCA uniiversity in the cup quarters.
